Old ceiling fan

We have eight cute little kittens that were born in the chicken house house / greenhouse about six months ago. Their mother was a farm barn cat and she perished before she could teach them how to hunt for mice. We were hoping that they would come around to learning it on their own, but they prefer to come begging us for food, instead.

It's getting pretty impossible to get anything done without them getting in the way - they swarm, cuddle, rub and purr - no way to get away! These kittens just don't want to be feral, like their mother - they want to be domesticated. We throw food their way every so often, but we just don't need, want and can't afford to feed so many cats. If you know anyone who could possibly want to adopt a kitten - please, please please, do let us know.

There is no way that most of them will make it through a Colorado winter on a farm. If we don't find a home for them pretty quick, we will have to give most of them to a shelter, which, most likely, will just put them to sleep, anyway.

In addition to the free kittens, I have lots of Egyptian onion bulbs to give away. I spent much of the day today planting these onions - about 200 square feet worth of them. I still have bulbs to cover at least another 400 square feet, but no room or desire to plant them. If you are reading this and are in the greater Denver area, please give me a holler and I will be happy to give you not just the kittens, but also the bulbs.

I also have an older working ceiling fan with a light kit in decent condition that I took down during a recent remodel. You can have it unconditionally and entirely free, as well.

Oh, and as long as we are on the subject of free, I have a lawn mower engine with a lawnmower body available for free - both look good. I got this lawnmower with a broken starter pull cord and speed control for its bag, the wheels and the blade. Took those down and now am hoping that somebody else can use the rest of it - I just hate to fill dumpsters!

All of the above is free. (Just don't screw with my head.) We are 10 miles directly east of the airport. If this is not too far for you, you show up when you say and your expectations match the description and "price," please call me at 303-669-1526 and let me know when you can stop by to pick things up. (I am almost always available.)

A fellow came and got the ceiling fan and lawnmower part. Glad to have them gone and not to the landfill, I hope. He really was in the area to pickup some cowboy necessities from a neighbor and so called on us as well. Most of the extra onion bulbs are gone by now, as well. Once again, big thanks to CraigsList!

Hi Jake,

Please make sure to screen potential adopters of the kittens very carefully. There are many unscrupulous, and even sadistic people out there. They should have references and sign an adoption contract (you can do a Google search for kitten adoption contracts and many will pop up).
Please only adopt them out to responsible and compassionate people.

Good luck,
Rina

We successfully adopted out six of the eight kittens - we are keeping the other two here. I spoke to all of the adoptive parents at length before allowing them to take the little critters home. I feel comfortable that they will be much better of in their new homes than they would have been had they either stayed here or gone to a shelter.

Five of the kittens were gone the first day and people came from as far away as Fort Morgan and Longmont to get them. The sixth one was adopted today. She so didn't want to go that when she realized that I was taking her to her new care takers, she bit me and scratched me up pretty bad. Lena caught her the second time with the help of a Kosher hot dog - such temptation was more than the poor kitty could handle.

All of the adoptive cat parents came from CraigsList. Thanks Craig Newmark. You started a wonderful service fourteen years ago and it is continuing to help people the world over. My Craigslist ad also helped me connected with a wonderful cat lady from Chaparral Hills neighborhood around Byers. She takes care of feral cat colonies around the I-70 corridor. She promised to help us catch the remaining female and get her fixed, so that we don't face the same problem next year.
