As soon as I opened my back door, I just knew something was up. Casting a closer look, I identified two rather large hairy invaders disturbing my peace (of mind?). I was appalled. My attempt at creating a rabbit free zone was failing miserably. These two were busy pretending that they were hard at work, helping me mow the grass. I told them nicely, as I have many times in the past, that my lawnmower worked just fine, they were trespassing and had to leave right away. The smarter of the two, heeded my call and ran as fast as he could, his tail between his legs. The other one ignored my strong admonitions entirely, pretended he was death and continued going about his business. I checked for damages: a dying grape and a young oak on its last legs (or is it roots?). I went in for the gun When I came back out several minutes later, this gutsy littler fellow was still in the backyard. He tried to make a last minute rush for the exit, but the pellet was faster than the hare, I thought. Upon later investigation, no bullet wounds were found. Official cause of death heart attack! May he rest in peace 18 under the trash can.
